Being a grown up is hard, and dealing with your finances can be even harder. It's a rare individual that can brighten up a task that gives many of us anxiety. If you are in need of a helping hand, or an extra comforting word of wisdom, Irene is queen.

Public Works Profiles - Adulting is Easy with Irene!

You know how hard you resist doing that one thing that will make your life easier? Like oh, yeah, I could do my laundry, but instead how about I reorganize my collection of umbrella cover sleeves. Anyone??

Well, Irene Acosta, Pubilc Works Senior Accounting Assistant, can show you how to adult with ease and grace and a smile on your face! She's the kind of person you want to sit down with for just five minutes who can help you get what you need. Starting as a finance intern and then joining our team full-time in 2009, Irene assists customers with making payments and payment arrangements on their water bills, and explaining City services and programs. This financial empowerment also helps advise residents about water leaks and how they can qualify for special programs like leak credits, how to conserve water and keep bills low by offering free water saving devices, and how to take advantage of the City's rebate programs for increasing water efficiency.
IMG_1405Irene's colleagues inspire her to bring her best service to our residents every day, their close friendships make their collective efforts stronger, their challenges less daunting, and their solutions more innovative.

"I enjoy interacting with the public because I realize the importance of helping a customer understand the services the City provides and what their money is paying for, and supporting them by clearly answering questions they might have. It gives me pride to be able to watch a customer leave happy and grateful after I have interacted with them."

Irene takes care of people, it's just part of who she is. She's grateful for her supportive husband of 18 years, and they are always busy-busy with their two children, Armaan and Raegan. To recharge all of the energy and love Irene pours into her work and family, she enjoys yoga and walking in our giant forests!

There is no shame in needing a helping hand or extra comforting word of wisdom, and when you do, Irene is queen.
