Public Works Profiles - Rosemarie is Royalty

ROSE

Forget the royal wedding, and meet Public Works royalty, Rosemarie Dow. We are woman crushing on Rose, our Construction Inspector in our Engineering division, who will celebrate 34 years with the City of Watsonville this September.

Public Works Profiles - Rosemarie is Royalty

Anyone who knows Rose knows that she hustles and it's no surprise she's in construction cause she's tough as nails. She started with the City of Watsonville as a Drafting Clerk, then became an Assistant Engineer, and now facilities such important projects as our Sidewalk Repair Program, working alongside property owners and developers to ensure the safe management of our community's sidewalks. She also coordinates City surveying (sometimes even via helicopter!), and recently Rose helped to ensure the management and trimming of 300 trees to upkeep local power lines with PG&E.

You can find Rose at any City gathering, often working her magic behind a camera (she's an avid and talented photographer). Rose constantly brings together our staff with her infectious energy and she has been part of the City's Employee's Association for more than 20 years, she leads our City's Annual Awards Dinner, our annual PW BBQ and scholarship program, our Holiday Party, and helps out with staff negotiations.

So why does she do literally all of the things?!? Well, she loves being outdoors and that her work is so varied. She is a people person and she enjoys working with other City staff, contractors, and our various departments. For Rose, working for Public Works feels like working with family! Speaking of family, she has two bright and beautiful daughters of whom she is so proud, Lana and Laura.

In her free time, she loves spending time with her family and her partner George. You could say that Rose is part fish…Five days a week before work she lap swims. Rose also loves to travel and her list includes Hawai'i, Mexico, South Korea, Puerto Rico, New Orleans, and the Pacific Northwest, among others. Once she retires she plans to visit every state!

Help us in saying thank you to Rose. She's the bomb.
