“Students must have initiative; they should not be mere imitators. They must learn to think and act for themselves and be free”
-Cesar E. Chavez
The Cesar E. Chavez Community Awards recognizes young people (ages 22 and under), adults role models, schools, youth serving organizations and businesses who support and foster youth leadership in the community. This award honors individuals and organizations who intentionally engage youth in positive-prosocial activities that provide opportunities for young people to foster and develop new skills and knowledge that empower them to help others and contribute to their community.
One award will be given in each category:
Young Person (Age 22 or under)
Adult Role Model
Youth Serving organization
Award Ceremony Those selected will be recognized at the Cesar E. Chavez Community Awards on:
Date: Thursday, March 28, 2019 Time: 6:00 pm Location: City of Watsonville Community Room 275 Main Street, Fourth Floor
The evening will include a welcome by Mayor Francisco Estrada and an inspiring keynote address. The evening will culminate with dinner and the presentation of awards. This year’s event theme is “Teach Someone,” one of the ten values recognized by Cesar Chavez Service Clubs. This is the value of giving someone the ability to help and provide for themselves, rather than giving those gifts and donations.
Event Tickets Awardees will receive one dinner ticket and a plus one. Additional tickets may be purchased at the Parks and Recreation Office, 231 Union Street or online at eventbrite. Tickets are $10 each. We highly encourage those who nominated an award recipient to be present at the event to escort their nominee.
